ABOUT THE SHOW

Teen Dad subverts popular regional theater "kitchen-sink beach house dramedy" to share a heartfelt, comedic exploration of generational trauma and recovery in a mixed-race Black and Latinx family.

Abby, a precocious emo-goth teenager, orchestrates a surprise reunion for her mother Tanya, and her birth father, Tom, with the help of her mom's fiance/healer John. Hoping to provoke long-lasting reconciliation between her parents before her high school graduation, Abby's plans completely derail when Tom arrives with his new girlfriend Alisha. Can this family confront their past traumas, "deal and heal?"

CONNECTING THE COMMUNITY

We foster inclusion through community engagement. On Saturday, May 6th, we will be hosting a production of Teen Dad in a space specifically directed toward high school students in Springdale. After the show, the cast and crew will participate in a talk-back, where director Trey Smith will facilitate a conversation with students about the experience they had viewing the play, as well as their experiences as teenagers, what it means to have a minoritized identity in America, and other conversations about higher education, and art.

EXPANDING ACCESS

Arts One Presents is committed to expanding inclusivity and accessibility to all parts of the performing arts production process from casting to the final curtain. Teen Dad will be the second Arts One Presents show to include American Sign Language translators for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

We recognize that ticket prices may be the greatest barrier to entry for various demographics attending theater productions, particularly students. We have a tiered ticket system that gives high school and university students as well as veterans discounted prices to encourage their engagement with local performing arts.

AMPLIFYING LOCAL TALENT

Arts One Presents intentionally seeks out narratives, creatives, cast and crew that not only showcase the talent in our region, but reflect the experiences lived by our community and neighbors.
